FIELD: metal processing.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to metal forming and can be used for production of rifled and smooth barrels. Tube blank is made from a primary billet by machining. First pipe billet radial reduction is performed at a radial reducing machine that has a support and drive centers. Intermediate forged piece is obtained; it is subjected to intermediate thermal and mechanical treatment. Finished barrel forged piece is made from the intermediate forged piece by second radial reduction. Lead-in part of pipe billet is made in the form of an external lead-in cone, which is deformed strikers of the radial reducing machine at the first and second reduction. Base of the lead-in cone passes into a part of the tube billet in the shape of a cylinder and has an temporary chamfer for the support center of the radial reducing machine on its end. End of the lead-in part of the intermediate barrel forged piece is cut during its machining for the second radial reduction. Cylinder is arranged at the side of the said end on the lead-in part; the cylinder changes into an external lead-in chamfer of the intermediate forged piece.
EFFECT: result is the reduction of the volume of mechanical processing of a pipe billet and intermediate forged piece, higher reliability of clamping of a tube billet during radial reduction.
