FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of decoding Reed-Solomon product codes. Iterative decoding is implemented by a sequence of decoders, each of which corrects errors, first in vertical codewords, then in horizontal ones. Each decoder, when correcting errors in vertical codewords, modifies syndromes of horizontal codewords. When correcting errors in horizontal code words, the following decoder performs modification of syndromes of vertical code words.
EFFECT: improving the efficiency of error correction without reducing the bandwidth of the device for decoding the Reed-Solomon product codes by increasing the number of iterations of decoding horizontal and vertical codewords and performing each iteration with a separate decoder.
