FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the production of tantalum alloys. Reagent mixture is formed, said mixture containing tantalum pentoxide powder, barium peroxide powder, aluminium metal powder, tungsten metal powder and at least one powder selected from the group consisting of iron (III) oxide powder and copper (II) oxide powder. Layer of magnesium oxide powder is placed in a graphite reaction vessel on at least the bottom surface. Reagent mixture is placed on top of a layer of magnesium oxide powder. Ignition wire made of tantalum or tantalum alloy is brought into contact with the reagent mixture. Reaction vessel is sealed inside a reaction chamber, a vacuum is created inside the reaction chamber and the ignition wire is energised to facilitate the initiation of aluminothermic reactions between the components to produce reaction products containing a monolithic and fully consolidated core of tantalum alloy containing tungsten, and a separate slag phase containing aluminium oxide and barium oxide. Reaction products are cooled to ambient temperature and the slag and the beads are separated.
EFFECT: providing a monolithic, fully consolidated, non-fragile beads of tantalum alloy with a uniform distribution of alloying elements in the tantalum matrix.
