SUBSTANCE: invention relates to switching device (10) of direct current for interrupting electric direct current (I) flowing through a medium or high voltage current path (12) comprising electrical circuit device (14), which contains at least one mechanical switch (16), switched in the path of current (12) medium or high voltage, and at least one circuit unit (18) for providing a forced zero crossing current in mechanical switch (16) switched in medium (or high) current path (12). It is provided that at least one circuit unit (18) contains several capacitive components (20, 22) and switching device (34), which are connected in circuit unit (18) the way capacitive components (22, 24) in first state switching devices (34) are connected in parallel for their respective electric charging through the medium or high voltage current path (12) and in the second switching state of switching device (34) are connected in series to generate a current pulse causing a current zero crossing. Invention also relates to the use of similar DC switching device (10) for interrupting electric direct current (I) flowing along a medium or high voltage current path (12).
EFFECT: technical result is the possibility of application for medium and high voltage.
