FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: mold sleeve for continuous steel casting contains a wall of copper or copper alloys coated with chromium and/or nickel. On the inner side of the wall there is the first section and the second section located in the lower part of the wall in its longitudinal direction. First section is equipped with a heat insulating layer, providing the value of thermal resistance of the mold sleeve on said wall section to be larger than on the second section. In the second section, protrusions are made of wear-resistant material, the thermal conductivity of which is lower than the thermal conductivity of the wall material.
EFFECT: formation of surface cracks on the blank is reduced by aligning the heat sink from the wall of the sleeve and eliminating the junction of the blank to the wall in the second section.
