FIELD: continuous casting of steel to mold with cooling ducts in the form of slits, grooves or openings.
SUBSTANCE: shape, cross section surface area, periphery, type of boundary surface, orientation relative to contact surface or other geometry parameters of heat transfer portions of surface of one cooling duct or group of cooling ducts are matched with local density of heat flux and(or) with temperature of contact surface at casting, namely in zone of melt metal heel. Local cooling action of one cooling duct is varied due to increasing or decreasing effective surface of heat exchange in bottom or in lateral surfaces of duct. In order to increase local cooling action of one cooling duct, its iso-perimeter cross section surface area is increased due to forming additional grooves in surfaces of bottom or of lateral sides of duct. In order to decrease local cooling action of cooling duct, its cross section surface area is reduced due to arranging displacement bodies. Lowered heat transfer over bath metal heel is provided due to using sleeves with openings over metal heel, applying coatings and placing inserts of less heat transfer material.
EFFECT: lowered cracking occurring in blank, increased useful life period of mold.
