FIELD: nuclear physics; energy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear energy and can be used in fuel elements (FE) of fast neutron reactors with a liquid metal coolant. Fuel rod of a nuclear power fast neutron reactor contains a cylindrical shell. In the cavity of the shell is placed fuel core, made in the form of an assembly of coaxially mounted fuel pellets of cylindrical shape. Fuel core contains two parts of fissile material differing in composition, successively located along the shell axis of symmetry. Parts of the core are separated by a metal heat-conducting partition forming the fuel reproduction section. Lower part of the core in the direction of movement of the coolant contains fuel pellets made of a metal alloy based on uranium and plutonium. Upper part of the core in the direction of the coolant movement contains fuel pellets made of mixed oxide fuel based on uranium and plutonium oxides.
EFFECT: increasing the power of a fast-neutron nuclear power reactor using uranium-plutonium metal fuel and ensuring the possibility of safe operation of the reactor at an electrical power level of at least 900 MW.
