FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a process for producing para tertiary butyl phenol and acetone by oxidizing para tertiary butyl phenol with an oxygen-containing gas at elevated temperature to hydroperoxide and acid decomposition of the latter. Oxidation is carried out in the presence of a phthalimide catalyst of following formula (1) for 15–60 minutes, and the subsequent acid decomposition of para tertiary butyl phenol hydroperoxide is carried out in an acetone medium for 15 minutes in the presence of 0.001–0.1 % wt. from loading para tertiary butyl phenol hydroperoxide with concentrated sulfuric acid.
