FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in mechanical engineering in the manufacture of filter elements of air filters of internal combustion engines, including automotive engineering. Method involves the dissolution of polyvinyl alcohol in water when heated to a temperature not higher than 95 °C at constant stirring, the introduction of a crosslinking agent, pore-forming agent and catalyst at constant stirring, followed by pouring the resulting reaction mixture into forms, keeping them at a temperature not lower than 55 °C, removing the obtained element from the mold, washing off the catalyst and a blowing agent, drying. Formaldehyde (paraformaldehyde) is used as a crosslinking agent, which is introduced in an amount of 2–25 wt.%, and water-insoluble organic solvents, for example, toluene, xylene, diesel fuel, kerosene, nefras are used for washing.
EFFECT: method provides a simplified technology and reduced time of manufacture of the filter element.
