FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: short circuit detection method (10) in electrical network (1) of its own frequency (f0) contains steps in which: a signal representing the current parameter (V) in network (1) is obtained for at least one predetermined period of time (2⋅Tech), wherein the acquisition of the representative signal (V) comprises the acquisition of three consecutive values of the representative signal separated from each other by a predetermined period of time (Tech); the frequency (f) of the received representative signal is determined, and said signal (V) is considered sinusoidal; said determined frequency (f) should be between the first and second threshold values; the presence of short circuit (10) is established if the previous test is not satisfied.

EFFECT: technical result is improved response in case of a fault.
