FIELD: power engineering.

SUBSTANCE: use in power engineering for detection of phase-to-ground fault of tracking substations short bus connecting output of power transformer and input of rectifier. According to the method with given periodicity and simultaneously measuring and comparing instantaneous values of currents at the beginning and at the end of the line, number of measurements is calculated for preset time interval, at which difference of instantaneous values of currents exceeds preset threshold, this number is compared with preset threshold number and when threshold is exceeded, decision is made on detection of short circuit to earth.

EFFECT: high reliability of detecting the fact of short-circuiting the phase on the ground of the short bus of the tracking substation.
