FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and, in particular, can be used in analysis of industrial and natural objects containing traces of iridium. Disclosed is a method of determining concentration of iridium by its catalytic action on the reaction of oxidation of water-soluble porphyrin with an alkali metal periodate, according to which the oxidation reaction is carried out in a medium of a mixture of phosphoric, acetic and boric acids at pH 2.00–3.75 at room temperature, wherein water-soluble porphyrin used is 5,10,15,20-tetrakis (4-sulphonatophenyl) porphin in concentration of (0.25–1.00)×10-5 mol/l, and concentration of alkali metal periodate is 0.05–0.20 mol/l.
EFFECT: reduced lower limit of the range of determined concentrations of iridium at room temperature.
