FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an internal heat exchanger for welding a pipeline that contains a drive system configured to move the internal heat exchanger into a position within at least one pipe section near a weld joint location with another pipe section. Said internal heat exchanger further comprises a cooling section comprising a cooling structure configured to selectively cool one or more parts of the interior surface portions of at least one pipe section, and a controller adapted to cooperate with the cooling structure and adapted to activate the cooling section when the internal heat exchanger is in the position within at least one pipe section.
EFFECT: present invention is directed toward pipeline welding systems, in which weld joints are formed at the ends of two pipes being connected.
