SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the computer equipment. Method of decoding at least one image from a bit stream, in which encoded layer data is decoded, using an encoding mode by a palette, which uses, for each of the processed pixel units of the layer, an associated palette which contains a set of records which associate corresponding record pointers with corresponding pixel values, wherein the palette associated with each processed pixel unit is predicted from the palette predictor using the prediction information from the bitstream; obtaining, from the bit stream information on the number of color components and the palette predictor initializer associated with the encoded structure, hierarchically above the layer, wherein the palette predictor initialiser structure is based on information on the number of color components; and palette predictor is initialized for layer using obtained palette predictor initializer.
EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of coding efficiency using palette mode.
