SUBSTANCE: inventions can be used in water reservoirs disinfection. Method of controlling blooming of photosynthesizing microorganisms living on the surface of an aqueous system includes distributing on the water surface a floating diffusion composition containing at least one floatation agent and at least one photosynthetic inhibitor in conditions which induce at least 50 % decrease in the number of photosynthesizing microorganisms within a certain period of time. Concentration of the photosynthetic microorganism inhibitor in the aqueous system over a given period of time is below the allowable concentration in drinking water. Floating agent is selected from a group consisting of saturated hydrocarbons, resinous materials, wax, natural or synthetic latex and combinations thereof.
EFFECT: inventions provide reducing the number of microorganisms which pollute the water environment of water bodies at low dosage of the inhibitor in a floating diffusing composition which slowly releases the inhibitor into the environment.
