FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control and measurement equipment and can be used for diagnostics of pipelines by methods of nondestructive testing. Method of controlling irregularity of wall thickness of pipelines further comprises steps of determining amplitudes of orthogonal components of eddy current fields by sensors of an alternating magnetic field in the direction of the axis of the metal conduit and in a direction orthogonal to the axis of the metal conduit and the radius, wherein measuring assembly is rotatable, and diagnostic robot is moved step-by-step, wherein rotation of measuring assembly is carried out by 180° at each step in turn clockwise and counterclockwise, length of each step is set equal to width of capture by sensors of alternating magnetic field, located diametrically opposite on measuring unit, and by exceeding specified ratio of ratio of amplitudes of orthogonal components of fields of eddy currents there is presence of thinning in wall of metal pipeline.
EFFECT: high quality, reliability and accuracy of control with simultaneous expansion of the range of equipment.
