Method of operating a geographically distributed control system consisting of single-type programmable logic controllers, connected by serial communication channels, includes operation of sensors interrogation and generation of control actions in actuators, reception of commands and display of state of control object. Operations of common control algorithm are distributed between central and peripheral controller. Each peripheral controller stores in its memory data on current values of only those sensors and actuators, which are connected to the part of the algorithm which is realized by it. Peripheral controller independently generates data in the memory of the connected equipment.
