FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to data transmission and is intended to transmit large amounts of data between computing devices in a WAN. Invention describes various technologies associated with scheduling network traffic in a network. Request to transmit data from a first computing device to a second computing device includes data which identify the amount of data to be transmitted in a deadline, where data must be transmitted before the deadline. Long-term schedule is calculated based on the request, wherein the long-term schedule specifies traffic flow through the network for a relatively long-term time horizon. Short-term schedule is calculated based on long-term schedule, wherein devices in network are configured based on short-term schedule.

EFFECT: technical result is higher efficiency of network using due to smoothing traffic volume in network in time.
