SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biochemistry. Described is a method of treating cancer in a subject, comprising administering to a subject a weekly dose of an antisense compound which is complementary to human STAT3 coding nucleic acid. Said method comprises administering to an individual an antisense compound in a loading phase and then in a supporting phase, wherein said loading phase comprises administering a dose in range of 3 to 4 mg/kg/week for first 1–10 weeks, and said maintenance phase involves administering dose of 2 mg/kg/week for at least 1 week after the loading phase. In one version, the cancer is B-cell lymphoma or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
EFFECT: invention extends the range of agents and methods for treating cancer.
