FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical technique. Stereoscopic image device comprises a polarizing beam splitter configured to receive image light from the image surface and to divide the incident light of the image into missed light having a first polarization state, and first and second reflected light having a second polarization state different from the first. Device also has first and second reflecting elements configured to change paths of reflected light of the image such that the transmitted light of the image and the first and second reflected light of the image are projected to form a single image. Single image is formed by superimposing the first image from the transmitted light and the second image from the first and second reflected light. Besides, the device contains the first, the second and the third polarization modulators able to selectively switch the polarization states of the transmitted and reflected light images between the first and second states. Control of the first, second and third polarization modulators enables to selectively switch the polarization states of the transmitted light of the image and the first and second reflected light of the image, to have the same polarization output state at a given moment, thereby forming a single polarized image on the image forming surface at a given moment.
EFFECT: technical result consists in minimization of loss of optical energy and improvement of stereoscopic image quality.
