FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, particularly, to smelting ferroalloys from pure niobium pentoxide by out-of-furnace metallothermal process. Proposed method comprises loading charge, its fusion, maintenance and separate discharge of fusion products. Melting is performed with upper igniter under arch, at that, charge consists of main and sedimentation part, at that, first charge main part is charged, making 92.0–95.0 % of total weight, and melted, then precipitating part of the charge is charged without stopping, which is 5.0–8.0 % of total weight of charge, maintained ready melt for 15–20 minutes. Charge contains, wt%: pure niobium pentoxide 47.0–55.0; iron oxide 18.0–20.0; aluminum powder 11.0–21.0; calcium-aluminum alloy 3.0–6.0; calcined lime 13.0–6.0.

EFFECT: invention increases recovery of niobium due to selection of optimum composition of charge and method of its loading.
