SUBSTANCE: present invention discloses a data packet processing device and method. According to the method, a storage device located on the network side stores correspondence between the identifier and the characteristic information of the data stream. When configuring a policy for a data packet, which includes a first identifier, the network side device requests from the storage device the characteristic information of the data stream corresponding to the first identifier. PCEF receives a data packet which is sent to the UE, compares the data packet with the data information characteristic information and, when the data packet is mapped to the data information characteristic information, executes the policy on the data packet in accordance with the policy information corresponding to the first identifier.

EFFECT: in accordance with the method provided in embodiments of the present invention, transmission of a significant amount of characteristic information of the data stream over the SCEF interface is avoided, and the load on the SCEF is attenuated.
