FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a recombinant yeast host cell for xylitol production and use thereof. Said host cell produces D-arabit from glucose and contains a heterologous nucleic acid sequence encoding NAD+-specific D-arabit-4-oxidoreductase (EC 1.1.1.11), using D-arabitol as a substrate and giving D-xylulose as a product, and a heterologous nucleic acid sequence encoding NADPH-specific xylitol dehydrogenase using D-xylulose as a substrate and producing xylitol as a product. What is also presented is a method for producing xylitol using said host cell and using said host cell to produce xylitol.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides higher production of xylitol.
