SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining information on size of food ingredients. Method comprises a step of applying (110) to electric field food ingredients having a predetermined radio frequency, wherein this electric field is generated by means of a source located in close proximity to food ingredients, first step of measuring (120) the relationship between the energy of the electric field reflected from the food ingredients, and electric field energy generated by said source and applied to food ingredients. Method also comprises a first step for determining (130) average thickness of food ingredients along the direction of the electric field, applied to food ingredients, based on said ratio, second measurement step (140) of ratio (R2) between energy of electric field reflected from food ingredients, and energy of electric field applied to food ingredients for multiple distances between electric field source and food ingredients.
EFFECT: described method results in a more convenient, more correct and accurate method of determining average thickness of food ingredients.
