SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. Disclosed is a method of storing a file on an extensible markup language (XML) into a print media container configured for installation into a printer, wherein the method comprises steps of: generating a set of indices from the XML file, wherein the set of indices includes a tag index which indexes the tag terms used in the XML file, an attribute index which indexes the attribute terms in the XML file, and a value index which indexes terms of values in the XML file; compacting an XML file into a compressed version of the XML file by converting the XML file according to the indices; generating a converted file containing a set of indices and a compressed version of the XML file; and storing the converted file in memory associated with the print material container.
EFFECT: reduced space of memory occupied by an XML file in a container of printing material made for installation into a printer.
