FIELD: optoelectronic surveillance system.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to control of traffic monitoring system. Group of inventions comprises a processing unit implementing a method of controlling a traffic monitoring system, comprising steps of: capturing first images and second images with time by a plurality of stereoscopic sensors. Processing the first image and the second image from the first stereoscopic sensor from the plurality of stereoscopic sensors to create the first height image. First height image is analyzed to detect a moving object in the primary view region. Parts of the primary area of view of at least a first image, a second image and/or a combination of the first and second images captured by the second stereoscopic sensor are analyzed based on the detected moving object in said first height image to determine the characteristic of the moving object.
EFFECT: reliable and accurate determination of vehicle characteristics.
