FIELD: education.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to games on boards, mainly to chess, as well as to psychophysiology and sport pedagogy, in particular to methods of training sportsmen engaged in chess, and can be used in chess schools when assessing the quality of training chess players. According to the invention, testing is carried out, theoretical lessons on studying the game equipment (using either display of various chess parts on the computer, or albums with complete decision and analysis of batches). Besides, various debuts are shown and the trainee is allowed to finish the game from the key position to the winning. When assessing the quality of training players each is provided with a key position of any debut (starting position). Time for beginning moves to a winning position is recorded. After 5 minutes all passages made by the tested chess player are recorded. Right-made strokes are selected from them, i.e. corresponding to reference strokes, and determining information indicator (II) – percentage of correctly made strokes in 5 minutes relative to reference number of strokes to final winning position, and with II=50–70 % quality of preparation is considered to be "good", and at II=70 % "excellent". Number of moves, which either a skilled chess player having high qualification, or a computer program takes from the key position to the winning position in 5 minutes, is taken as the reference number of moves. II are defined as average value for at least five sets.
