FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts used in processes of hydrotreatment of heavy oil stock and residues. Protective layer catalyst for processing heavy oil stock, containing an active component and a carrier, contains aluminum oxide as a carrier and, as an active component of a calcium and/or magnesium compound, content of calcium is not more than 10 wt%, magnesium – not more than 10 wt%, the catalyst has macropores, which form a regular spatial structure, wherein the fraction of macropores with size in range from 50 nm to 15 mcm is not less than 30 % in the total specific volume pores, catalyst has specific surface area of not less than 100 m2/g with an outer surface portion of not less than 50 % and a specific pore volume of not less than 0.1 cm3/g. Method of preparing a catalyst for processing heavy oil stock includes a step of preparing a support and subsequent application of an active component selected from compounds of calcium, magnesium or any combination thereof, carrier comprises macropores, which form a spatial structure, wherein macropore fraction with size in range from 50 nm to 15 mcm is not less than 30 % in total specific volume of pores, and for introduction of alkaline additives macroporous carrier is impregnated with calcium and magnesium salts solution, both in form of individual substances and their mixtures, calcium content is not more than 10 wt%, magnesium – not more than 10 wt%, catalyst has specific surface area of not less than 100 m2/g with an outer surface portion of not less than 50 % and a specific pore volume of not less than 0.1 cm3/g.

EFFECT: obtaining a catalyst of a protective layer, which during processing of heavy oil stock is a strong and wear-resistant structured catalyst having high capacity for metals, coke and silicon, high stability, low activity in the reaction of coke formation and reduced requirements to viscosity of raw materials and content of macromolecules in it.
