SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method of processing heavy oil feedstock on a protective catalyst bed, wherein heavy oil feed is passed through a fixed catalyst bed at temperature of 300–600 °C, feed rate through catalyst of 0.2–2 g-feed/g-catalyst/h in the presence of hydrogen fed under pressure of 8–12 MPa, characterized by using a bifunctional catalyst containing alumina as a support, and as an active component – compounds of calcium, and/or magnesium, and/or cobalt, and/or nickel, and/or molybdenum, and/or tungsten, with content of cobalt is not more than 20 wt%, nickel – not more than 20 wt%, molybdenum – not more than 20 wt%, tungsten – not more than 20 wt%, calcium not more than 10 wt%, magnesium – not more than 10 wt%, the catalyst has macropores, forming a regular spatial structure, wherein macropore fraction with size in range from 50 nm to 15 mcm is not less than 30 % in total specific volume of pores, has specific surface area of not less than 70 m2/g with an outer surface portion of not less than 50 % and a specific pore volume of not less than 0.1 cm3/g.
EFFECT: reduced content of mechanical impurities, impurities of silicon oxide, metals, aggregated macromolecules, for example asphaltenes, coke, and reduced viscosity of raw material.
