SUBSTANCE: method for motion compensation comprises steps of storing discrete brightness measurements of current and reference frames, performing search motion vectors with accuracy of pixel fraction together with parameters of additional conversion for more accurate frame prediction, performing frame prediction based on motion vectors and additional transformation with parameters, wherein the motion vector is selected based on the cost function expressed by the formula

where Y(u, v) is the pixel brightness value with coordinates (u, v) in the current frame; X(u, v) is the pixel brightness value with coordinates (u, v) in the reference frame; M × N is the block size; (Vx, Vy) is motion vector; (x, y) are coordinates of the upper left corner of the considered block in the current frame; F(X) is an approximation function containing parameters of additional transformation.

EFFECT: higher quality of motion compensation.
