FIELD: beverage preparation devices.
SUBSTANCE: present invention discloses capsule 1 having an inlet surface C formed by circular section 2a and protruding section 2b extending from circular section 2a, as a result of which the inlet surface C has no symmetry of rotation. Capsule 1 further comprises an optically readable code 3 on the side wall of cup-shaped body 4 of capsule 1, opposite projecting area 2b. Present invention further discloses a beverage preparation apparatus with capsule holder 13 for holding capsule 1 in the beverage preparation apparatus 10 such that the optically readable code can be read by the code reading device 24. For preparation of food products, the fluid may be fed into the capsule. Present invention provides a means of preventing contamination with liquid, steam, dirt, and so forth optically read code 3 and code reading device 24, respectively.
EFFECT: it becomes possible to and more reliable than at present level of equipment, automatic recognition of capsule type and corresponding automatic setting of parameters of apparatus 10 for beverage preparation.
