FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a cathode comprising a) elementary sulfur, elementary selenium or a mixture of elementary chalcogens; b) at least one electroconductive additive c) and at least one organosulphur compound having at least one organic group and at least one -S-Sn bond, where n is integer from 2 to 5, and said organosulphur compound contains one or more functional groups selected from a group consisting of dithioacetal, dithiocetal, trithio-orthocarboxylate, aromatic polysulphide, organo-polysulphide containing a trithiocarbonate functional group, and an organometallic polysulphide containing a trithiocarbonate functional group.
EFFECT: compositions and use of organic polysulphides and organic polythiolates for use in metal-sulfur batteries, particularly lithium-sulfur batteries, are provided by the present invention, where compounds of organic polysulphide and organopolytiolate are used to improve efficiency of such electrochemical cells during repeated cycles of discharge.
