FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: rechargeable chemical source of electric energy comprises a positive electrode (cathode), containing sulfur or sulfur-based organic compounds, sulfur-based polymer compounds or sulfur-based inorganic compounds as a depolarisator, a negative electrode (anode) made of metal lithium and from lithium-containing alloys, and electrolyte containing solution of at least one salt in at least one aprotonic dissolvent. The chemical source of electric energy generates soluble polysulfides in electrolyte at the first stage of a double-stage discharging process. Besides, amount of sulfur in the depolarisator and volume of electrolyte are selected so that after the first stage of cathode discharge (down to potential of 2.1-1.9 V), concentration of soluble lithium polysulfides in electrolyte makes at least 70% of lithium polysulfides saturation concentration in electrolyte.
EFFECT: increased specific energy.
