FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to drive units and a method of controlling such plants. Drive unit (1) to actuate load (21) comprises gas turbine engine (3) configured to actuate load (21), electric motor/generator (23) connected to power distribution network (G), first load coupling (19) connecting turbine (3) with load (21), and second load coupling (22) connecting load (21) with motor/generator (23). Gas turbine engine (3) comprises gas generator (5) with rotor (9R, 11R) and power turbine (7) with rotor (7R), wherein rotor of power turbine is mechanically separated from gas generator rotor or is not connected to it by torque. Motor/generator (23) is configured to operate as a generator and as an engine. Drive unit (1) also comprises frequency converter (25) connected between motor/generator (23) and power distribution network (G) and configured to control electric frequency from mains to motor/generator and from electric motor/generator to network.
EFFECT: invention consists in achievement of the plant operation in the required mode with increase of its operational flexibility due to that the load does not depend both on the working conditions of the gas generator and on the frequency of the electric power distribution network and there is possibility of independent change of the working conditions of the circuit formed by the gas-turbine engine, load and an electric motor/generator.
