SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of operating a water-conducting domestic appliance (1) comprising drum (3) for receiving items to be treated, having at least one perimeter with at least one radiation-permeable portion (30, 35), control device (18), spectrometer (21) containing at least one radiation source (5, 27), at least one radiation detector (7, 28) and microcomputer (6), wherein microcomputer (6) and control device (18) are configured to exchange information with each other, which enables to exchange data between spectrometer (21) and control device (18), wherein the method comprises the following steps: (b) emitting (31) at least one radiation source (5, 27) of spectrometer (21) in a wavelength range from λ1 up to λ2 at least through one radiation-permeable portion (30, 35) such that objects (22, 34) in drum (3) are exposed to radiation (31), and at least one radiation detector (7, 28) detecting reflected from objects (22, 34) radiation (32) through at least one radiation-permeable section (30, 35) in at least one time interval Δt as measurement signal; (c) transmitting the measurement signal to microcomputer (6), analyzing the measurement signal by the analytical algorithm recorded in microcomputer (6), and transmitting the analyzed measurement signal to control device (18) and (d) selecting and/or adapting the operating program by control device (18) based on the analyzed measurement signal; wherein steps (b)-(d) are performed once or more times. Invention also relates to a household appliance suitable for this method.

EFFECT: method for improved control of a domestic water appliance and a corresponding domestic appliance are disclosed.
