FIELD: mining.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mining and can be used in extinguishing burning rock dumps on the surface of coal mines formed during operations at coal mines and coal-treatment plants. Disclosed is a method of extinguishing rock dumps on the surface of coal mines, involving injection of cooling solutions or suspensions into the combustion zone, increasing their volume by injection of substances sweating when heated. Drilling of wells for injection is carried out along perimeter of combustion zone, which is determined from results of temperature survey, supply of cooling solutions or suspensions and intumescent substances when heated to wells is carried out along its perimeter from the edge of combustion zone to its center in a cyclic manner, and on-site, in process of attenuation of injected sections. Volume of materials swelling during heating is determined proceeding from distance between wells along perimeter of combustion zone and depth of wells as per specified mathematical expression.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of rock excavation extinguishing at preservation of environmental safety due to change of the fire extinguishing procedure taking into account rock properties and distribution of combustion temperature in rocks of rock dump.
