FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing butenes in selective dimerization of ethylene using highly active two-component catalysts based on complex compounds of nickel (II). Process is carried out in the presence of homogeneous catalysts – complex compounds of nickel (II), namely compounds of formulas

where: R1=Me; R2=F, H, CF3; R3=F, H, Cl; R4=F, H; R5=F, H; R6=F, H, X=Cl, Br, or in the presence of heterogeneous catalysts – said complex nickel (II) complexes supported on aluminum modified silica gel, the process is carried out in an organic solvent medium, such as toluene, at constant pressure of ethylene and using an organo-aluminum cocatalyst selected from MAO, Et2AlCl, Et3Al2Cl3.
EFFECT: catalyst catalytic activity increase to 9,740 kg of products/(mol Ni hour bar), high selectivity of formation of C4 fraction – up to 100 % increase in selectivity of C4 fraction by 2-butenes – up to 96 % simplification of technical process due to loading of heterogeneous catalyst in form of powder, cocatalyst – in form of a solution in toluene, high solubility of the catalyst owing to use in synthesis of complexes of the adduct of nickel bromide with dimethoxyethane.
