FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a catalyst for selective dimerisation of ethylene based on complex compounds of nickel (II), characterized in that as ligands it contains derivatives of 2-iminopyridines, specifically 2-[(phenylimino)methyl]-6-methylpyridine or 2-[(phenylimino)methyl]-6-bromopyridine derivative, which when obtained is an aniline which contains one or more electron-acceptor substitutes (F, CI, CF3) in the aromatic ring. Also disclosed is a method of preparing said catalyst.

EFFECT: technical result is higher catalytic activity of catalyst, high selectivity of formation of C4-fraction, simplification of technical process due to catalyst loading in form of powder, high solubility of the catalyst owing to use of nickel bromide adduct with dimethoxyethane during preparation thereof.
