FIELD: homogeneous catalysis.

SUBSTANCE: claimed group of inventions relates to the field of homogeneous catalysis, in particular to the development of a new organonikel sigma complex, to a catalytic system for the selective dimerization of ethylene to butene-1 and to a selective method for producing butene-1 using the said catalytic system. The substance of the claimed technical solution is an organo-nickel sigma complex - (2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)nickel(II) bromide of formula (1). The catalytic system for ethylene dimerization includes the specified organo-nickel sigma complex and an organoaluminum compound in a suitable solvent at a molar ratio of organoaluminum compound to Al/Ni sigma-complex of at least 10. Method for butene-1 production consists in putting the catalytic system in an inert atmosphere of an autoclave, then the system is purged with ethylene and the oligomerization process is carried out at room temperature and a pressure of 30 atm with stirring; then the autoclave is cooled, unreacted ethylene is bled off and a deactivator solution is added - a solution of mineral acid in alcohol or water to stop the catalytic process.

EFFECT: expanding the range of catalysts used in the process of homogeneous oligomerization of ethylene, while achieving: increasing the selectivity of the process of homogeneous oligomerization of ethylene and the formation of butene-1; exclusion of polymer formation and a significant reduction in the formation of oligomers other than C4; increase in catalytic activity.
