FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy and can be used in modifying carbon low-alloy steel. Steel is melted in furnace with steel deoxidation prior to tapping into ladle. When the melt is discharged from the furnace into the ladle, additionally aluminum is introduced into the ladle till filling of ladle by 1/4. When ladle is filled by 1/3–2/3 modifier is added, which includes silicon, rare-earth metals and barium. After introduction of modifier and completion of metal output from furnace, melt is blown with argon at flow rate of 0.1–5 m3/t for not more than 10 minutes. Treated metal is poured into mold at temperature of steel higher than steel liquidus temperature by 50–80 °C. "Chips"-modifier with particle size of 1–10 mm is used in amount of 2–6 kg/t. Total content of rare-earth metals and barium in modifier is 10–20 %.
EFFECT: improved structure and mechanical properties of steel.
