FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves melt blowdown with argon and introduction to the melt of flux cored wire consisting of a cover and a modifying filler that contains the following, wt %: calcium - 5÷30, barium - 5÷25, rare-earth metals - 2÷20, silicon - 10÷60, and iron is the rest. Rare-earth metals are contained in the form of alloy combinations with iron and/or with silicon and iron. Ratio in the filler of total amount of calcium and barium to rare-earth metals is at least 0.8, and modifying filler consumption is 0.5-6 kg/t of the melt. Before flux cored wire with modifying filler is introduced to the melt, there can additionally be introduced to the melt is flux cored wire with a filler for pre-treatment, which contains either calcium, barium, silicon and iron, or calcium, silicon and iron. Filler consumption for pre-treatment is equal to 0.5-6 kg/t of the melt.
EFFECT: improving refining and modification efficiency.
