FIELD: aviation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for passive remote television identification of aircraft type using passive optical location devices and devices for its implementation. Such result is achieved due to that video images of the image are obtained using an optical system; converting video images of an image into a signal information matrix; converting the information matrix of signals into a binary matrix; detecting, on a binary matrix, the image boundaries and forming a rectangular electronic frame which approximates the image; calculating along the length of sides of said frame of measured geometrical characteristics of image, correcting said values in projection planes using angles of view of aircraft from external location and calculating identifiers of geometrical characteristics of image; comparing values of image geometrical characteristics identifiers with similar reference identifiers from databases of operated aircraft; aircraft type decision is made on proximity of identifiers values.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of reliability of aircraft type identification irrespective of view angle of its observation.
