FIELD: transportation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the vehicles. In the method for controlling an internal combustion engine of a vehicle with an infinitely variable transmission comprising a belt wrapped around the drive and driven pulleys, determining a first speed proportional to the turns of the driven pulley; idling speed value based partially on the first speed is determined. Specified idle speed is less than engagement speed when driven pulley turns are less than preset turns of driven pulley. Preset idle rpm is less than engine rpm when idler pulley rpm exceeds preset rpm of driven pulley. Required engine rpm is determined and controlled when required engine rpm is less than preset idling speed. Engine is controlled for operation at conditions corresponding to specified value of idling speed, initiating braking by engine, when turns of driven pulley exceeds preset turns of driven pulley.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of engine braking.
