FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of masking errors in an MDCT region. MDCT-based audio coder intended for encoding an audio signal is received from a coder, comprising a plurality of MDCT coefficients associated with a frame containing discrete values of the audio signal in the time domain. Received packet is identified as being an erroneous packet based on the fact that the received packet contains one or more errors. MDCT estimation coefficients are generated to replace a plurality of error packet MDCT coefficients. MDCT estimated coefficients are based on corresponding MDCT coefficients associated with the received packet immediately preceding the erroneous packet in the sequence of packets. Determining, for each MDCT estimation coefficient, whether the MDCT coefficient is related to the tonal-resolution spectral element or the noise-type resolution spectral element, based on the metadata associated with the packet.
EFFECT: technical result is higher efficiency of masking errors.
