Methods include obtaining a sample from an animal; analysing the sample to determine the amount of micro-RNA (siRNA) associated with the chronic valve disease; comparing the amount of siRNA found in the sample with the corresponding amount of siRNA present in the sample obtained from one or more comparable control animals that do not suffer chronic disease of the valves; and diagnosing an animal with chronic valve disease if the amount of siRNA found in the animal's sample is differentially expressed in the control animal's sample.

EFFECT: there are presented methods for diagnosing chronic disease of valves in an animal.
