FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing propylene, comprising: reacting an olefin feedstock containing butene with ethylene, in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a metathesis catalyst MoO3 with aluminum oxide, in reaction conditions sufficient to form a stream of product containing propylene, and reaction conditions include a reaction temperature of less than 250 °C, wherein the catalyst system contains an isomerisation catalyst MgO and a binder selected from aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide, clay, inorganic oxides and mixtures thereof, wherein the catalyst system has a weight ratio of the isomerisation catalyst to the metathesis catalyst of 0.5:1 to 0.25:1.
EFFECT: disclosed method avoids the use of high temperatures and increases output of the product, as well as longer service life of the catalyst.
