FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to lubrication of machines and engines. Method of producing cylinder oil, according to which is provided with fresh system oil, providing fresh cylinder oil and mixing fresh system oil with fresh cylinder oil, wherein fresh system oil has lower total alkaline number (TBN) than fresh cylinder oil, and wherein cylinder oil and fresh cylinder oil are flow cylinder oil for use in crosshead diesel engines and contain alkaline additives. Invention covers also the method of internal combustion engine operation, according to which: cylinder oil is prepared in accordance with any method of preparation of cylinder oil described in this document, and cylinder oil is used in internal combustion engine. Disclosed also is an apparatus for preparing cylinder oil, comprising a mixing means for mixing used oil and fresh cylinder oil, characterized in that the mixing means is fluidly communicated with at least one compartment of the internal combustion engine containing the used oil, or with at least one storage compartment containing used oil, at least one compartment for storage of fresh cylinder oil and at least one cylinder of internal combustion engine.

EFFECT: invention provides reduced amount of lubricants, as well as improved control of kinematic viscosity when preparing cylinder oil from used oils.
