FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to determination of elastic properties of structural materials and can be used to determine Poisson ratio. Essence: the test material is subjected to indentation and the Poisson ratio is determined, using a flexible indenter in form of a sphere, determining elastic constants of the material of the spherical indenter, performing single indentation with load in range corresponding to measurement of hardness, measuring during load removal total value of elastic recovery of elastoplastic impression on surface of test material and elastically deformed surface of spherical indenter in contact center, diameter of residual impression on surface of tested material is measured, and value of Poisson ratio is determined by the proposed formula.
EFFECT: creation of a new method of determining the Poisson ratio without destroying the material of parts.
