FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of wear-resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum plasma sandwiched coating is applied. First, bottom ply of niobium nitride is applied. Then upper layer of nitride of niobium, titanium and chrome is applied at their ratio, wt%: niobium 58.0, titanium 30.0–36.0, chromium 6.0–12.0. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first and the second of which are made of niobium and located opposite to each other, and the third cathode is made of titanium and chrome and arranged between them. Lower layer is applied using first and second cathodes, and upper layer is using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: result is reduced time of coating application and increased serviceability of cutting tool with multilayer coating.
