FIELD: performing operations.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of multilayer coating for cutting tool by vacuum-plasma application. Lower layer of nitride of niobium, titanium and chromium compound and upper layer of niobium nitride are applied. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First and the second cathodes are made of niobium and located opposite to each other. Third composite cathode is made from titanium and chromium and arranged there between. Lower layer is applied using all three cathodes, and upper layer – using first and second cathodes.
EFFECT: higher wear resistance of cutting tool.
